An Evening with Nina Simone - Wild is the Wind and the Art of making a Song Your Own
NINA SIMONE: WILD IS THE WIND AND THE ART OF MAKING A SONG YOUR OWN For our next Audiophile Cafe Club session, we turn to Nina Simone and one of her most haunting and distinctive ALBUMS on its 60th Anniversary: Wild Is the Wind, released in 1966, spanning the Philips recording sessions made between 1964 and 1965. Before the full album playback, we’ll briefly trace some of the musical languages that shaped Nina Simone — classical discipline, gospel, jazz, blues, protest and funk — and explore the way she could take a song and make it unmistakably her own. The evening will then culminate in a complete, uninterrupted playback of Wild Is the Wind on a specially curated hi-fi system. Not a background-music night. Not a greatest-hits session. A room, a record, and the time to listen properly. Sunday 25 October — 5.30pm Offbeat Music Bar, 106 Merchants Street, Valletta Savoured individually. Shared communally.
